Fur felt, black ostrich feather trim on upper brim, gold gilt embroidered velvet, silk moire ribbon, domed gold buttons w/ eagle in relief under "E Pluribus Unum" banner, leather & blue siilk lining, silk stamped "Barret Rue Vivienne Paris", L 17", FHt 6.25", B Ht 8", plus 2.5" for feathers, excellent. Provenance: probably William Shimmin's & worn w/ lot 187 when presented at court in either Britian or France on 1830 trip to Europe. Shimmin was McDonogh's son-in-law (see lots 188-191).
